Visiting Professor of New Testament Studies, Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Pittsburgh, PA
Presentation: "Preaching Advice from the 'Sermon' to the Hebrews"
Most scholars agree that the Epistle to the Hebrews is actually a sermon. Thus, Hebrews provides us with an inspired example of early Christian preaching. This lecture will examine what the Epistle to the Hebrews can teach modern pastors about fulfilling their calling as Christ's prophetic messengers.
Rev. Selvaggio was a practicing attorney before entering seminary, and this systematic profession and experience translates nicely to delivering well-planned, thorough, and informative teaching on the New Testament Scriptures and current studies and movements related to them.
He is presently serving as Theologian in Residence in the Rochester Reformed Presbyterian Church (RPCNA), Rochester, NY. He previously served as the Senior Pastor of the College Hill Reformed Presbyterian Church (RPCNA) in Beaver Falls, PA. (2002-2007).
Professor Selvaggio is an active writer. Recent books by Evangelical Press are The Prophets Speak of Him: Encountering Jesus in the Minor Prophets, and the recently released What the Bible Teaches About Marriage, the latter of which has garnered interviews with national media. He also is editor and contributor for The Faith Once Delivered: Celebrating the Legacy of Reformed Systematic Theology and the Westminster Assembly, Essays in Honor of Dr. Wayne R. Spear, released this year. A forthcoming work on Proverbs is slated for release in 2008.
In addition, Rev. Selvaggio has published a series of representative articles on "Songs of the Covenant," in The Reformed Presbyterian Witness, as well as "Preaching Advice From the 'Sermon' to the Hebrews," in Themelios.
