Presentation: "God's Purposeful Power in Preaching "

Professor Prutow's working definition of preaching is as follows: Preaching is God [ Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] communicating His Truth in our world to people in the pew through human instruments in order to change their thinking, bridle their emotions, and alter their wills, for the purpose of converting sinners, sanctifying saints, and preparing people for heaven.  The paper will examine the Westminster Standards to see how they undergird this working definition, display God’s proximate goals and ultimate purposes for preaching, and thus set forth God’s very purposeful power in preaching.

Dr. Prutow is a prolific preacher.  In March alone of 2007 alone, SermonAudio.com reported that there were 4,811 sermon downloads from his page on the site, and a total of over 44 thousand downloads of his more than 700 sermons.

Converted to faith in Jesus Christ through the ministry of an army chaplain during his service in Korea, he himself later ministered as chaplain with U.S. Special Forces and a mechanized infantry battalion in Vietnam following his seminary training.

Dr. Prutow authored In Response, a monthly expository newsletter, prior to coming to the Seminary. He continues the Word for the Week, a weekly devotional newspaper column available in over eight hundred newspapers. The following are representative periodical articles: "Five Points of Calvinism," in Presbyterian Guardian; "Homosexuality vs. Homosexualism," in The Outlook; "Learn and Live," and an ongoing series of articles in the Reformed Presbyterian Witness.
